The lifeblood of any chess organisation are it’s competitions. The MCF runs a varied list of them.
The Manchester League run in the winter is the major competition for it’s members. This has five divisions with teams from all over Greater Manchester and beyond. There are several cup competitions run alongside the league in the winter season.
The South East Lancashire League is the summer league and is a popular way for players to keep their eye in.
The Federation also organises two major congress’s, The Manchester Congress and the newer Manchester Rapidplay held at the City of Manchester Stadium. Both of these tournaments attract quality fields.
Two County teams compete in the competition organised by Midland Counties Chess Union. Gtr. Manchester regularly qualify for the final stages but find competition fierce.
A correspondence chess team plays in a yearly tournament and performs well. Also in this section you will find a tournament calendar and a link to the English Chess Federations grading list. Also there is a section of book reviews to help brush up your chess knowledge.
