The 2011 Manchester Congress at Woolton Hall Owens Park University Complex, can only be judged as a huge success.
The tournament saw player participation increase by around twenty percent to over one hundred. This event last year saw digital clocks introduced and another innovation was on the agenda this time. The usual time limit of 75 minutes plus 20 minutes allegro finish was replaced. The time limit introduced was 80 minutes for all moves plus 30 seconds per move added. This eliminates many time disputes and went ahead without any hitches. Perhaps a marker for future events?
